Lacking Vitamin D? Prevent the Flu?

Looking back. When I went in for Samuel's 2 week appointment, the Dr. told me that they have increased the recommended daily allowance for Vitamin D x2...to 400 international units (IU)from 200 IU. For babies that are exclusively breastfed, there is a special need for vitamin D supplementation. Commercial formulas provide little ones with enough vitamin D daily so supplementation is not deemed necessary for these youngsters. Children and adults, alike, need to have adequate amounts of vitamin D to ward off a number of illnesses...even the dreaded influenza can be chased off by this vital vitamin. You also need vitamin D to absorb Calcium so that is why it is added to milk. You need to drink a TON of milk to get enough of your daily vitamin D...so that is not recommended!
